Halloween, celebrated on Oct. 31, originally started as nothing more than an autumn harvest festival. Today, the holiday is associated with ghosts, costumes and, of course, candy. It has long been thought that Halloween is the one day of the year the dead can return to earth. It is estimated that Americans spend more than $6 billion each year on Halloween, which makes it the United States’ second largest commercial holiday.
Below are The Examiner’s top 10 facts and trivia not necessarily known about Halloween:: Read more

Time Traveler in 1920 Charlie Chaplin Footage?
Filmmaker George Clarke has spotted something unusual in some "behind the scenes" footage of Charlie Chaplin's 1920 film The Circus. In the brief clip, a woman walks into frame talking while holding a small, thin device up to her ear. If the film were made today, we would assume she was talking on a cell phone, but this is 1920. Clarke thinks that the woman is a time traveler, but if the device is a cell phone, to whom would she be talking?

Air Force Academy Now Welcomes Pagans
Finding enough recruits to fight America's endless wars must be getting tougher. The U.S. Air Force Academy, which not long ago discriminated against non-Christians, is now welcoming pagans.
Just a few years ago, the Air Force Academy was considered such an evangelical hothouse that the place got sued for its alleged discrimination against non-Christians. Today, the Academy is boasting of its thriving pagan community — and its friendliness towards spell-casters.
In a press release issued Thursday, the Academy features Tech. Sgt. Brandon Longcrier (pictured), “the lay leader for the Academy’s Earth-Centered Spirituality community, which includes Wiccans and Pagans from various traditions.” (It’s part of a larger effort by the school to promote an image of tolerance.) Are Ghosts and Shadow People One and the Same?
Are ghosts and shadow people one and the same? Paranormal researchers disagree.
Shadow people are paranormal shadow-like creatures that people usually see in their peripheral vision. Reports suggest that they do not appear to reflect light and that their appearance is essentially a silhouette in black.
They usually have no discernible features beyond the general outline of their form. However, shadow people have been reported to have shifted into a more human form and in these instances it is said that sometimes features such as glowing eyes and sometimes mouths or nostrils are discernible.
Reports of shadow people, sometimes called shadow folk, shadow men, or shadow beings, have many similarities with ghost sightings, so many similarities that many paranormal experts consider ghost and shadow people one and the same.
However, other experts disagree and claim that shadow people are a separate phenomenon from ghosts for a variety of reasons. Read more

Can You Believe in UFOs AND the Bible?
Can you believe in paranormal phenomena, such as UFOs or Bigfoot, and still believe in the Bible? I don't see why not since religion itself is paranormal, but three sociologists decided to examine the religious values of believers in the paranormal.
UFOs and the Bible - how do you believe in both?
That’s one of the questions that aroused the curiosity of three sociologists who wanted to examine the religious values of believers in the paranormal.
In “Paranormal America: Ghost Encounters, UFO Sightings, Bigfoot Hunts, and Other Curiosities in Religion and Culture,” the authors asked if religious people are more prone to believe in the paranormal.
Carson Mencken, one of the book’s co-author’s, says more conservative Christians, for example, tend not to think too much about UFOs and Bigfoot. Read more

Kentucky Goblin Encounter
The Kelly-Hopkinsville Kentucky "goblins" encounter, which took place back in the 1950s, seems to be an unexplained UFO case. The goblins resemble the Greys mentioned in Whitley Strieber's books.
On the night of August 21, 1955, two Kentucky families claimed to have fought unknown beings. In a rural area of Kentucky, near Hopkinsville and Kelly, two families contend they battled extraterrestrial creatures. The event happened around the Sutton farmhouse, where the Suttons and the Taylors gathered for dinner. At some point during the evening, Billy Ray Taylor went outside to draw water from the well.
Taylor witnessed a huge, bright object land in the woods about a quarter of a mile from the house. He started towards the house with the water when he saw a strange creature approaching. Billy Ray dropped the bucket and ran into the house. Both he and Lucky Sutton picked up firearms and ran back outside. Taylor fired his .22 caliber rifle and Lucky fired his shotgun but neither weapon had any effect on the creature. Read more

UFO Sightings Connected to Large Hadron Collider?
UFO sightings have long been associated with nuclear sites. Have UFOs now become interested in the Large Hadron Collider? If so, do they know something that we don't know?
More responses to sightings of 'orange lights' UFOs near Louth have been pouring into the Leader – with some wondering if recent UFO activity is connected to the Large Hadron Collider experiment in Geneva.
A man called Anthony from Wales emailed a similar account of what he saw: "I was having a cigarette outside my front door on Saturday at around 9pm and I looked over the roof tops and saw two orange-red glowing lights coming from over the hill where I live. Read more

UFO Sightings by Astronauts
Most people interested in UFOs know that astronauts have seen them. What they may not know is how many astronauts have seen UFOs. At least ten astronauts have reported UFO sightings. Below is an excerpt from Major Gordon Cooper's story:
Major Gordon Cooper
One of the original Mercury Astronauts and the last American to fly in space alone. On May 15, 1963 he shot into space in a Mercury capsule for a 22 orbit journey around the world. During the final orbit, Major Gordon Cooper told the tracking station at Muchea (near Perth Australia) that he could see a glowing, greenish object ahead of him quickly approaching his capsule. The UFO was real and solid, because it was picked up by Muchea's tracking radar. Cooper's sighting was reported by the National Broadcast Company, which was covering the flight step by step; but when Cooper landed, reporters were told that they would not be allowed to question him about the UFO sighting. 7 Tips to Get Rid of a Ghost
Scott Petullo says he has over fourteen years of clearing ghosts from homes and freeing people and disembodied souls. He offers seven tips to get rid of a ghost..
After over 14 years of clearing ghosts from homes and freeing people from the negative hold of disembodied souls we are convinced that ghosts are a lot more common than people realize. Hollywood has demonized (literally) the phenomenon, but don’t be afraid. In reality, most are more of a nuisance than threat, much like a mosquito, if you know what to do.
Simply put, a ghost is the disembodied soul of someone whose body has died. Instead of going to the “Light,” they remain earthbound.
Ghost hunters on TV do a great job of detecting paranormal activity, but they usually don’t send it to where it needs to go to continue its spiritual evolution: in the Light.
This final step in ghost busting is often overlooked, but is crucial because if it’s not done the ghost will continue to cause problems for itself and others. Read more

Hunt on for Horny Ghost
An Australian ghost hunter wants to investigate a ghost who grabbed a woman by the arm, though if that's all it did, I'm not sure why they think it's "horny." It could have just been trying to get her attention.
A ghost hunter wants to visit the Northern Territory to investigate the existence of Kevin, a horny ghost, that yesterday divided the nation into believers and sceptics.
Jason King, who has been hunting ghosts for five years, said the encounter of Darwin woman Jennifer Mills-Young with a ghost she named 'Kevin' was "normal" and he would "love to get evidence".
Mr King said he would come to Darwin for an investigation - free of charge. Read more

How Ghosts, Superstitions, and Vampires Jave Been Used for Psychological Warfare
The U.S. military has used ghosts, superstitions, and vampires for psychological warfare operations, documents reveal.
Military psy ops aren't limited to leaflets, propaganda broadcasts, and Korean pop music. In the past, the US military has played on their opponent superstitions of vampires, ghosts, and astrology. Here are some strange examples.
In World War II, US forces exploited the Nazi's predilection to put stock in superstitions and the occult. The Rand Corporation's 1950 memorandum "The Exploitation of Superstitions for Purposes of Psychological Warfare" details how pseudoscience connoisseur Joseph Goebbels counteracted Allied attempts to strike fear into the superstitious strata of the German population: Read more
