Thousands of humans go missing everyday. Unfortunately, the explanation is usually crime–kidnappings, abductions or murder. In other instances, a person can runaway to escape something, or forge a new identity.
A missing persons case that can’t be explained is considered a cold case. Of these cold cases, the vast majority have rational explanations, but investigators simply do not have the physical evidence they need to put the puzzle together. Mysterious disappearances are endlessly fascinating. This list could have been extended to ten if they had added Ambrose Bierce and Judge Crater.
