When history reaches a fork in its path, most often its fate is decided by powers beyond the comprehension of most mere mortals. Which is to say that it’s usually the rich people in power, the governments and military leaders, who will affect the course of things. Mainly by waging war on each other, or making great scientific discoveries, or spying on their populace.
All of the biggest events in history – the Moon Landing, two World Wars, the 1966 World Cup win – were decided by forces outside of most people’s reach. Then there are the time when those outside forces aren’t just the establishment who treat the world as their plaything, beholden to their whims. Sometimes, those forces are something…other. Read more

Ireland isn't the only place with legends of little people. Northern Minnesota has them, too.
For the past several months, Crypto Four Corners International founder and researcher JC Johnson has been in northern Minnesota, near the Canadian border, investigating several cryptid encounters and phenomena reported by local residents. One of these cryptids is a race of small humanoids known by the indigenous Ojibwa as 'Bagwajiwinini' or 'Wild Man.' Other bands have different names for them, including Apa'iins or Pai'iins, which mean 'Little Person.' Read more

Mcah Hanks examines humanity's dark fascination with the Hollow Earth legend.
Few of the great fears held by humankind in our path to modernity would rival that of our long dread for the darkness. Fortunately, with the daily cycle of the Earth’s rotation, we are only bathed in that blackness for a few hours at a time. Hence, over the long course of its evolution, humanity has worked mostly by the waking hours, having learned to hide ourselves away as the light recedes, and take our rest during the hours where dangers of the dark become most prevalent. These ten eerie ghost stories from New England cemeteries have endured for centuries.
Few places in the world have as ghostly a reputation as New England. It’s the region that gave us Stephen King and the Cthulhu Mythos. It also has some of the oldest post-colonial settlements in the US, and along with them some of the oldest graveyards.
Half a millennium has been plenty of time for those cemeteries to gather creepy reputations. These weird stories of haunting in New England’s burial grounds could provide plenty of inspiration for any aspiring horror writer. Read more

The mausoleum of a Victorian Egyptologist’s friend is sealed, but if opened may reveal a shortcut to a Paris cemetery.
Ray Godson and Stephen Coates are both keen to get their hands on a key to the thick bronze door that shields the entrance to an imposing granite mausoleum in Brompton Cemetery in west London.
For Mr Godson, a replacement for the key that went missing in the late 1970s would allow him to pay his respects to Hannah Courtoy, his great-great-grandmother, who is interred in the tomb with two of her three daughters. Mr Coates’s interest is rather more esoteric: he is keen to test a long-held theory that the tomb is a fully functioning Victorian time machine. Read more

If you've never seen a UFO, but want to, try heading for the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada.
Ever secretly dreamed of a close encounter of the third kind? Are you intensely curious as to whether humanity is alone in this universe? Or are you just a massive fan of The X Files? Whatever your reason for wondering about alien life, the best way to get some answers is to find them yourself, and there's no better place to conduct your research than the Extraterrestrial Highway. Also known as Nevada State Route 375, the 98 mile stretch of road has had so many reported UFO sightings that the state eventually started referring to it as the Extraterrestrial Highway. The Grays are the best-known alien, but not the only alien being types that people have reported, according to H.R. Phillips.
Hello, and welcome back to The Heavy Stuff (THS) - a blog to bookmark if you want speculation into realities greatest mysteries. Today's posting is an offshoot of THS's post earlier last month http://theheavystuff.com/?p=99 - having to do with just how strange the whole `ufo' experience can be to an individual or even a group of individuals. It was in that post that THS speculated that occasionally, and perhaps often, a `UFO experience' may involve `different types' of entities.
THS, when mentioning different entity types, wasn't referring about the internet speculation (with some added fantasy perhaps) that multiple alien races are here, permenantly, in Earth's biosphere and are probably interacting with humans (some say dozens of races). No, what THS was and is referring to is `spaces'* (entities) which do not have an equal `basis' of `common reality' grounding - compared to a human. (Wordy, THS knows, but we will get much more specific in a bit.) Let THS attempt to explain: Read more

Natalie Zarrelli examines the hidden world of tenement fortune tellers in 19th century Manhattan.
In 1993, a restoration was underway at 97 Orchard Street in New York City. Beneath the darkened floorboards of one apartment, left unchanged for 50 years, a thin, frayed piece of paper from the 19th century was discovered; with one side printed in English and the other Yiddish, it advertised the fortune-telling specialties of “The World Famous Palmist and Mind Reader”, Professor Dora Meltzer.
The people who found this paper worked at the Tenement Museum, founded in 1988 to teach the history of immigrant life in New York through old tenement apartments in Manhattan. At the time, the Orchard Street building had recently been acquired, and the museum was renovating the apartment to use as a historical teaching tool. Layers of wallpaper were peeled back, and items from the 1800s through the 1930s were found in the apartments during the process, but this particular paper was a contextual mystery. Read more

Science takes a crack at exploring the mystery surrounding Florida's Bigfoot, the skunk ape.
The first time Dave Shealy saw a skunk ape, he says, he was ten years old. It was 1974, a few years after his father had come upon a set of footprints left by the creature—an Everglades version of Bigfoot named for its supposedly pungent odor. Dave was out deer hunting with his older brother, Jack, in the swamp behind his house, in what’s now Big Cypress National Preserve, when he encountered the ape incarnate. Read more

Are UFO investigators probing the world's first real alien corpse? UFO researchers claim a mummified "being" they are studying came from outer space, but was buried in a Mayan tomb for hundreds of years.
Alien investigators tried to garner support for their theory that the mummy, reportedly removed from a Mayan tomb in Mexico, is an extra terrestrial and not a child mummy, as sceptics claim.
the 50-inch-long mummy was shown during a UFO conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, where several 'UFO experts" tried to convince the crowds its eyes were too big to be that of a human child, and its "near non-existent ears" mean it is also not of this world. Read more

Brent Swancer explores the mystery of the secret society of nine unknown men, who are charged with guarding ancient secrets and protecting society from potentially destructive knowledge.
Humankind has always had a sort of fascination with the idea of secret societies. From the Freemasons to the Illuminati, there is a certain allure to the idea that behind the scenes of our everyday life there are powerful forces at work pulling the strings, privy to knowledge beyond our mainstream understanding, and with access to ancient secrets beyond our wildest dreams. They operate just under the surface of our civilization, their motives and aims enigmatic and inscrutable, working towards ends that we may never fully understand. One such alleged secret society concerns a shadowy group of nine mysterious men, formed in ancient India and charged with guarding ancient secrets and protecting us from the potentially destructive knowledge which we manage to glean from the mysteries of the universe. Operating in secrecy, they are spread throughout the world, silently watching and accruing ever more potent secrets, all the while hidden from our view. These are the Nine Unknown Men. Read more

Paranormal author John Mayhan says any of these ten signs may indicate that a deceased loved one is nearby.
Several days after my grandmother passed away suddenly in her sleep, I had a dream about her. In my dream, my mother and I went to my grandmother’s house to clean out her closet so my grandfather wouldn’t have to contend with it. As we came into the house, Nanny was sitting on the couch. I was astounded because nobody else could see her. I rushed to where she sat and said, “Nanny! I thought you died.” She wrapped me in her arms and said, “I did die, but I couldn’t leave without saying goodbye to you.” I was only six years old, but the dream is as clear as it was when it happened.
Since that time, I’ve been a student of the paranormal world, learning as much as possible about what happens to us when we die. One thing I’ve discovered is that loved ones often try to contact us after death. Here are some of the ways they might reach out to you. Read more

Are immortals currently walking the earth? Taylor Leonard lists several rumored possibilites.
Humanity’s quest for immortality is as old as the human race itself. We now see a Renaissance of new transhumanist ideas that make it seem like technology will be the cure to mortality. What once belonged to the realm of gods and magic is now in the hands of researchers and science – results pending, of course. Though society as a whole may still be on the hunt for ways to live forever, some claim the feat has already been achieved by a small number of people. A new FBI memo suggests that there may have been THREE crashes at Roswell, NewMexico.
A UFO museum that opened in Japan in 1994 was apparently the subject of Federal Bureau of Investigation scrutiny when it opened, according to recent Freedom of Information Access requests.
Employees at Hakui Centre for UFO Research came across what is known as the Hottel Memo while preparing a library of over 10,000 documents, that were to be the main attraction of the museum. The file -- which has otherwise been available since 1970 -- has come to light again, after further FOIA requests have uncovered that the FBI had opened a new investigation in the mid-nineties, over concerns regarding what other information might have been revealed by the Hakui Centre's exhibit. Are UFO sightings poltergeist events? A new hypothesis notes some similarities between the two phenomena.
On a recent episode of Coast to Coast AM, host George Knapp interviewed Dr. Eric Ouellet, professor of Defense Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada, about the idea of UFOs being poltergeist events. Quellet outlined his new hypothesis, which posits that UFOs could very well be manifestations of psychic forces humans are projecting onto the world around them. The hypothesis is the culmination of years of parapsychological research into poltergeists which shows that there seems to be a pattern to the activity. Ouellet applied this parapsychological methodology to historical waves of UFO activity and discovered notable similarities. Read more

Another clue to the hidden history of the human race has been found - the first pictorial representation of Gobekli Tepe
A tiny bone plaque in Sanliurfa museum holds the key to the orientation of 11,500 year-old temple complex.
It was found during routine excavations at the 11,500-year-old site of G>bekli Tepe in southeast Turkey, but no one had recognised exactly what the carved lines on the small bone plaque showed. That was until Matthew Smith, a British telecommunications consultant living in Qatar, visited Sanliurfa’s new archaeology museum, which contains a large collection of objects found at the proto-Neolithic site located just 8 miles (13 kilometres) away towards the northeast. He would seem to have recognised something everyone else had missed, and this was that the little plaque – just 6 cm in length, 2.5 cm in width and 3-4 mm in thickness – bore on its upper surface two T-shaped features positioned side by side. The context of the plaque’s discovery, i.e. at Göbekli Tepe, makes it clear these T-shaped etchings are pictorial representations of the T-shaped pillars found in all the key enclosures uncovered so far at the site. So, the Patterson-Gimblin Bigfoot film has been totally debunked, right? Not really, says Taylor Leonard.
The most famous of all alleged “Bigfootage” ever produced, the Patterson-Gimlin film remains an iconic artifact of the unknown. Shot nearly five decades ago on Bluff Creek in California near the Oregon border, the minute-long scene recorded onto 16mm film by Roger Patterson accompanied by Bob Gimlin depicts a subject covered in brown hair walking upright away from the camera. Frame # 352 captures the subject in its most memorable and revealing pose relative to the camera, an image which has since become the face of Sasquatch-related pop culture around the world.
In the 40+ years since the release of this alleged Bigfoot documentation dozens of brains have picked over its every detail. Some such as the late Dr. Dmitri D. Donskoy, a leading expert on human biomechanics, believed the subject to be nonhuman. Others outright deemed it an easy-to-spot fraud, including the late “father of cryptozoology” zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans. Countless TV specials have aired the footage for the public to decide for themselves – oftentimes showing highly deteriorated copies of copies of copies. Numerous people have come forward over the years claiming to have either manufactured a suit for the film or having been a performer in a suit in the film, providing little evidence beyond their own word and the testimony of friends and family. For the first time in the history of the courts a ghost appeared as a correspondent in a divorce suit.
Here's an interesting article that was published in the Boston Post on June 10, 1900:
GHOST IN TROUBLE
St. Louis, June 9 -- For the first time in the history of the courts a ghost will appear as correspondent in a divorce suit next Tuesday. The ghost is that of William J. Florence, who was one of the best actors who ever graced the boards. Mr. Florence, of course, in life was full of fun, a great practical joker. It may be that Mr. Florence's spirit has continued to play pranks. Charles L. Bates, an expert on diamonds in the largest jewelry store here, names the spiritual Mr. Florence as correspondent in his suit for divorce from his wife, Mrs. Lou E. Bates, who has herself brought a suit for divorce, in which she names as correspondent a "grass widow and Spiritualistic medium." But, it turns out, the grass widow is in the flesh. Blues legend Robert Johnson was supposed to have made a deal with the devil to obtain his musical talent. Hoodoo has a tradition of crossroads spirits, but what exactly are these entities?
Note: Makes sure to read the section titled "controversy" at the end of this blog post.
In Hoodoo lore, The Black Man At The Crossroads is a survival of an African Trickster Spirit. Similar entities can still be found in the living religions of Voodou, Santeria, Lukumi, Candomble, IFA, and the like. Since Hoodoo is not a religion, The Black Man is not worshipped, but he is to be highly respected. Because of his trickster nature, the Black Man is often called, 'The Devil', but such title is most definitely not one that is synonymous with the Biblical Satan. Instead, the term, 'The Devil' is a reference to the trickster nature of the entity. Similar African tricksters associated with the crossroads have also been referred to as 'The Devil'. Read more

The written word can have magical power. Here is how hoodoo practitioners use papers and petitions.
In the Hoodoo tradition, one is typically advised to write one's petition on brown paper torn, usually from a grocery type sack, on all four sides by hand. This is thought to make the paper pure. However, there are instances where the practitioner is allowed to cut the paper with a pair of scissors. The use of scissors is seen as symbolic of using weapons such as swords, knives, and daggers against one's enemies. Some situations in which you would cut your petition paper with scissors can include when driving two people apart, or working enemy tricks. Read more

Brent Swancer examines the mystical mysteries surrounding Mt. Shasta.
Mountains have always enthralled and inspired awe in mankind since time unremembered. We have lived in their shadows, worshipped at their feet, spun epic legends around them, feared them, revered them, and sacrificed to them. They have been the muse for countless artists, writers, and philosophers for thousands of years and inspired adventurers to push past their limits to ascend them. Mountains have also long drawn to them countless inexplicable mysteries and myths that gravitate around their craggy, cloud covered peaks and taunt those of us who would try and understand them. Although there are many deeply mysterious mountains in the world, one that surely stands out as exceptional is Northern California’s Mt. Shasta, a mountain which seems to know no end to the depths of bizarreness. Ancient lost civilizations, UFOs, Bigfoot, strange creatures, anomalous people, and numerous other unexplained phenomena, Mt. Shasta is just dripping with high strangeness. Here's your daily dose of weird: Almost four decades ago a strange photograph was taken of Mars by the Viking 1 space probe, which appeared to show a massive humanoid-looking face carved into the Red Planet's landscape, staring back at the orbiter's lens. The so-called 'Face on Mars' would go on to become a fixture in theories about extraterrestrial alien life, though later more high-resolution photographs of the region had NASA dashing thoughts of it being an artificial creation. Silicon Valley tech workers are turning to psychics and witches for advice, says Jeremy Lybarger.
Ten thousand miles from Silicon Valley, in a room near the Black Sea, Yegor Karpenchekov dreams of money. At night, while the rest of Odessa sleeps and cocaine smugglers drift in and out of the port under cover of darkness, Yegor logs onto FaceTime and talks to a 70-year-old woman in San Francisco. Her name is Sally Faubion, and five months ago she recruited Yegor from the freelancer marketplace UpWork to code her apps. She believes "divine intervention" brought them together; for Yegor, it was likely $20 per hour and the promise of steady work. Read more

Lon Strickler shares some reader accounts of paranormal mysteries.
The following accounts were submitted several years ago by blog readers:
"I have had a number of weird experiences in my life, in different places. I don't know if I just happen to have lived in several "haunted" places or if I'm the one that's haunted. My Mom thinks I have a haunting that follows me around, but I don't have experiences everyplace I've lived. My kids have had a couple sightings too, once with a friend over and they all saw it. I'll include those, but neither of those experiences were in places where I had experiences. Weird."

Almost invisible on the surface, the images were captured by researchers from the University of Yamagata in Japan thanks to 3-D scans of the ground a mile north of the city of Nazca.
The team discovered 24 geoglyphs of animals, “some of which probably depict Andean native camelid, llamas,” the researchers said in a press release. Read more

Best-selling paranormal author Joni Mayhan explores why the devil's hour is so terrifying.
As the clock approaches the hour of 3AM, something strange happens in the world around us. The veil between the living and the dead grows thinner, allowing free passage between the two dimensions. Demons, ghosts and interdimensional creatures slip into the land of the living, creating havoc and tormenting us as we lay in bed sleeping. They call it the Devil’s Hour.
Some people find themselves waking up every night during the Devil’s Hour, feeling a chill in the air as though they aren’t alone. They might awaken from a nightmare that seems all too real, only to find themselves face to face with their night stalkers. Many believe it’s more than just lost souls wandering our plane of existence, that it’s the work of demons who are mocking the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Since Jesus Christ died on the cross at 3PM, they use the opposite hour to torment the living in the same manner they might hang crosses upside down. Read more

he ability to manipulate our dream worlds goes beyond the science fiction plot of the movie Inception. A dream expert from Harvard University explains how it works
Some dreams feel so revelatory—if only returning to sleep would take us back there. It turns out, however, that our ability to shape our dreams is better than mere chance. In the blockbuster movie Inception, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his compatriots use drugs and psychological profiles to trigger specific dreams in people. Although the heavy sedation and level of detail incited are far-fetched, dream control isn't entirely a Hollywood fantasy. Read more

The "Flat Earth" theory was disproved long ago, right? It seems to have found a new audience, though.
It’s the last thing that most would ever think they would have to make a case for in the modern world: why the Earth is indeed a globe, and not a flat plane covered with topographical features like mountains and valleys, drifting along like an island in space.
Strange as it may sound, this was precisely the kind of argument I recently found myself having to address, in response to a discussion that took place on an online radio show which apparently brought the so-called “flat earth theory” back into question… at least in the minds of some. Read more

While alchemist have long been relegated to the fringe, modern scientists are finding that the alchemists were just a little bit right. Not all the way, because there are plenty of alchemical theories that, if true, would mean we’re living in an entirely different world. The fact that giants existed in pre-Columbian America is actually surprisingly well-documented by accounts of the discovery of giant skeletons and the oral histories of American Indian tribes. Here is a survey of some the the best evidence.
Few Americans alive today are aware that once real giants roamed the land – giant red-haired humans. Most Americans believe that the Native Americans were the first to inhabit the North American continent. Yet there were others – a much more ancient race that walked the hills and valleys, the plains and deserts of the pre-Colombian Americas.
Evidence of giant humans – people seven to twelve feet tall – exists in the fossil records, tools and other artifacts recovered from archaeological digs. Giant skeletal remains have awed and sometimes frightened researchers and explorers as far back as the Sixteenth Century. Read more

Although most spirits are not negative, some certainly are. John Moore reveals how to identify and deal with negative entities from astral parasites to demons.
Lately it seems everyone I speak to about a new case believes they have some negative entity or demon haunting them. Most forget that about 80% of paranormal claims have a perfectly logical and natural cause. Of the remaining 20% of claims that are paranormal less than 1% are truly in human or demonic in nature. This article is for after those cases that truly are paranormal in nature and have no natural explanation. The most common cause I have run across for this idea that there is a demon in the house is simply a misinterpretation of a spirits attempts to communicate. There are some key factors to look for during a paranormal investigation that indicate a negative or demonic entity which we will discuss later. It must also be noted that this article is simply to clarify some misconceptions and offer some help to those afflicted by these entities. However, after reading this no one should consider themselves ready to do battle with a demonic or inhuman entity under any circumstances. It takes years of training and experience to deal with these entities and one mistake can have severe consequences for all those involved. The best thing to do if you suspect something inhuman or demonic is present is to contact a team experienced in extreme paranormal activity or spiritual warfare for help. Read more

Mind really does affect matter, and decades of research prove it.
The Orch-Or model of consciousness isn’t a well-known theory, even in paranormal circles that would benefit from it during debates with skeptics. Yet, as an outlook on the nature of consciousness,Orch-OR may hold more potential for uniting the fields of scientific and paranormal research than any other body of work in existence.
Let’s start by acknowledging that there exists research out there contravening a number of science’s most dearly held truths. The inability of scientists to unite the fields of general relativity and quantum mechanics–as well as the growing mystery as to the nature of dark matter and dark energy–is more than enough reason to take a closer look at some of the unbreakable pillars of science: specifically, the idea that the human mind cannot affect matter without a physical medium—or telekinesis. Ask 99 out of 100 scientists out there whether or not there is evidence that mind affects matter, and 99 times you will be told, “No”.
This is partially the result of esoteric academic circles that only push forward certain kinds of research. To a large extent, parapscyhology and mind anomalies research is not considered a legitimate field; it is considered pseudoscience, right up there with chakras, holistic medicine, and karma. So even if these scientists know—and a great many probably do—about the Orch-Or model of consciousness, and the decades long work of The Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) program, they simply don’t care to think of it as revolutionary. Inspired by Russell Crowe's new film, our man tried his hand at dowsing.
In his new film, The Water Diviner, Russell Crowe plays a tough Australian bush farmer possessed of mystical powers, which he uses to divine that everything that subsequently goes wrong is the fault of the British.
Russell’s character travels to Turkey in 1919, hoping to learn the fate of his three sons who have failed to return from the Battle of Gallipoli, but his quest is thwarted by the hostility and snivelling incompetence of British officialdom, and his only reliable ally is his gift.
Divining is the ancient practice of holding rods or a forked branch, which supposedly react to the “energy” of things underground. Some claim that evidence of divining can be found in Neolithic cave paintings, but its popularity seems to have taken off in the 15th century as a method of finding metal deposits, and today in Britain there is a small but in-demand corps of professional diviners. Are voodoo and black magic real? Bestselling paranormal author Gare Allen examines the mysterious death of C. Wheeler.
In August of 2012, C. Wheeler, a retired man in his late sixties, was found dead in his bathtub inside his Florida home. Mr. Wheeler had not been seen for three days and his unmoved car in the driveway prompted his neighbors to investigate. Forcing their way into his home, the formidable stench of death confirmed their suspicions and they immediately called the authorities. With no signs of foul play, a break-in or fingerprints, police ruled the death a suicide and cited the kitchen carving knife embedded in Mr. Wheeler’s throat as the obvious cause of death.
Several days passed and Mr. Wheeler’s family had begun removing his personal belongings from the home in preparation of placing it on the market. His next door neighbor answered their door to find the late Mr. Wheeler’s elderly mother, hunched over and holding letters in one hand and a plain, white doll, made of yarn, in the other. Read more

Lon Strickler presents a few of the more interesting accounts of Men in Black that he's collected.
As many of the readers know, the infamous 'Men in Black' phenomenon grabbed a foot-hold in paranormal nomenclature after these strange individuals were observed in and around Point Pleasant, WV during the 13 month period prior to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. The recent presentation of 'The John Keel Files' on 'Destination America' depicted much of the MIB activity that occurred in 1966-67.
Beyond that specific bizarre period of Mothman, UFO and other odd encounters, the MIB phenomenon continues to occasionally arise after civilian sightings of UFOs and alien beings.
As to their identity and purpose, there are many questions put forward by UFO researchers and enthusiasts. Are they human or non-terrestrial? Who do they represent or work for? Are they dangerous? Are they part of a government or universal conspiracy? What do they want to know?
Here are a few of the more interesting accounts I've collected over the years: Read more

Using a pendulum is one of the simplest and easiest forms of divination to learn. Richard Webster says a pendulum can literally work miracles.
A pendulum is a small weight attached to a length of chain or thread. When someone holds it by the thread and asks a question, the weight moves and provides the answer. It is an amazing tool that can be used for many different purposes.
Just recently, a friend of mine decided to buy a car. He looked through the advertisements in the daily paper and asked his pendulum about the cars that sounded interesting. The pendulum gave a positive response to six cars, and eventually told him which car he should buy. He looked at all six, and finally bought the car that the pendulum had indicated. Read more

Spring-heeled Jack is an entity that first appeared during the Victorian era. Is the legend of Spring=heeled Jack worth a second look?
Beginning in the Spring of 1888, a series of grizzly murders would shake the city of London so badly that, even today, they remain among the most famous crimes ever committed. Attempts at bringing the killer to justice have led to numerous theories about the identity of the man who became known to history as Jack the Ripper. Today, despite a number credible leads that have been presented since Jack’s reign of terror, along with new evidence that employs modern science to try and crack the case, a conclusive case for The Ripper’s identity has remained elusive.
The infamous killer of Whitechapel was by no means the first eerie figure to terrorize Londoners by night. Five decades before Jack the Ripper first scrawled his name in red ink on a letter sent to London’s Central News Agency, a less murderous–though far more strange–series of incidents would arouse similar terror among the people of London, and under a similar name that remains one of the most odd and evocative in the annals of Forteana. Those were the words that five-year-old Ryan Hammons told his mother as he was being tucked into bed five years ago, according to NBC News’s Today.
Ryan reportedly began having vivid nightmares at age four. The next year, Ryan told his mother he wanted to “go home” to Hollywood, and related stories about meeting actress Rita Hayworth, taking trips to Paris, and dancing on Broadway. The boy said he had once lived on a street with the word “rock” in it. Read more

Bestselling author and paranormal investigator Joni Mayhan explores the connection between ghosts and aliens.
When I began researching this topic, I must admit that I was firmly in the skeptic’s corner. I am open minded to many things paranormal, but this took my belief system to a level I couldn’t immediately facilitate.
In my experience, there are Ghost Camps and there are Alien Camps. People who belong to one seldom venture into the other. We might appreciate the findings and the stories that are passed around in the other camp, but we do little more than nod and smile. Read more

A long-lost chapter from Thomas Edison's memoir reveals that he was so interested in communicating with the dead that he worked on a spirit phone.
A long-lost chapter of the memoir of Thomas Edison has been found and published in France and it contains details of the great inventor’s plans to build a device to record the voices of the newly departed.
Edison’s original memoir is called “Diary And Sundry Observations” and was published in 1948, 16 years after his death. LiveScience takes a look at human superpowers throughout history - and at which ones scientists are working to make a reality.
The idea of people with superpowers is one that has long captivated audiences. Modern-day movies, graphic novels, TV shows and video games are full of fictional stories involving people who have acquired extraordinary and seemingly impossible abilities. The real world has plenty of fantastic claims as well spurring on debate and study.
One person who made fantastic claims was Pedro Ruiz Calderón, a Catholic priest who was brought to trial in Mexico City in 1540. Calderón claimed that he could teleport between continents, make himself invisible, predict the future, make women fall in love with him, find buried treasure, summon and exorcise demons among other abilities. Research by John Chuchiak IV, a professor at Missouri State University, sheds light on his trial.
LiveScience takes a look at superpowers throughout history. Some of them appear impossible while scientists are working on others to make them a reality. Read more

So-called paranormal skeptics simply call paranormal witnesses liars, hoaxers, and frauds, but there are ten possible scientific explanations for ghost sightings.
According to a 2005 Gallup poll, 37 percent of Americans believe in haunted houses, and according to a 2013 HuffPost/YouGov poll, 45 percent believe in ghosts. These are surprising numbers, but the next time you hear a spooky sound, don’t call the Ghostbusters—get a scientist instead. Behind every shadow, poltergeist, and disembodied voice, there’s a perfectly rational explanation. Read more

Mysterious disappearances are endlessly fascinating. This list could have been extended to ten if they had added Ambrose Bierce and Judge Crater.
Thousands of humans go missing everyday. Unfortunately, the explanation is usually crime–kidnappings, abductions or murder. In other instances, a person can runaway to escape something, or forge a new identity.
A missing persons case that can’t be explained is considered a cold case. Of these cold cases, the vast majority have rational explanations, but investigators simply do not have the physical evidence they need to put the puzzle together. Still, there are a small percentage of cases that seem to defy logic altogether. Read more

This could explain at least some paranormal phenomena.
Quantum mechanics, though firmly tested, is so weird and anti-intuitive that famed physicist Richard Feynman once remarked, "I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics." Attempts to explain some of the bizarre consequences of quantum theory have led to some mind-bending ideas, such as the Copenhagen interpretation and the many-worlds interpretation.
Now there's a new theory on the block, called the "many interacting worlds" hypothesis (MIW), and the idea is just as profound as it sounds. The theory suggests not only that parallel worlds exist, but that they interact with our world on the quantum level and are thus detectable. Though still speculative, the theory may help to finally explain some of the bizarre consequences inherent in quantum mechanics, reports RT.com. Read more
