Can You Talk to the Dead With a Table
Best-selling paranormal author Joni Mayhan examines the practice of table tipping to contact the dead.
When Medium Kelly Dawn Purington offered to demonstrate table tipping for me, I’ll admit, I was skeptical. How can you communicate with the dead with a table? It seemed far-fetched and outlandish…until I witnessed it for myself.
Few things in life have intrigued me more than the mystical art of table tipping. Originating during the height of the spiritual revolution in the late 1800’s, mediums have been utilizing this practice for over a century to contact the dead. Read more

5 Things TV Doesn't Tell You About Paranormal Investigations
TV shows make paranormal investigation look like fun, but Amy Surprenant.says there are five things TV doesn't tell you about it.
Whenever I tell someone I used to be a paranormal investigator, they immediately romanticize and ask how many ghosts I've seen. Instead of going into my long diatribe about how that isn't how investigation works, I just make up a number. It's usually seven, because some people find it to be their lucky number and I love squashing dreams with one word. Because the truth is... Read more

Ghost Hunter Captures Eerie Sight Outside Haunted Prison
A British ghost hunter captured an eerie sight outside one of Britain's most haunted buildings.
According to the Pew Research Center, 18 percent of all Americans believe they have seen a ghost.
But the other 82 percent of us? Well, even if you’ve never seen a ghost, that doesn’t mean you don’t believe that they exist.
Personally, I was always an avowed skeptic until I stumbled upon a truly chilling video that appears to show a spectral figure trailing behind two small boys. Read more

Capturing EVPs No Simple Matter
If you watch the paranormal TV shows, capturing electronic voice phenomena (EVP) looks simple, but Lee Arnold says it's not as easy as it looks.
Capturing and analyzing electronic voice phenomena (EVP) is more involved than many amateur ghost hunters realize, and this lack of understanding results in shoddy results at best.
I have to admit, until I really began researching EVPs I fell into this crowd of amateur ghost hunters armed with a single recording device who never put enough thought into it to collect results that were worth a damn. Read more

How to Analyze Ghost Audio
Once you have obtained your ghost audio, the next step is to analyze it.
If you are very careful to know your equipment and conduct your sessions, the ultimate step of a paranormal investigation is analysis. Many ‘hunters’ listen back to recordings on site; while this can be useful in directing a session, be sure to go back and analyze later anyway.
While I realize that not everyone can use a professional audio or video software like ProTools or FinalCut Pro, these are the gold standard for digitizing audio and video. Be sure to read the manual and any online forums for the sound or video programs you use to see what kind of quirks they might have, and what their limitations might be. Read more

How to Record Real Ghost Audio
If you want to try your hand at ghost hunting, The Ghost Diaries explains how to record ghost audio or electronic voice phenomena the right way.
So how can you be sure what you are hearing is actually paranormal?
First, and I cannot emphasize this enough, TAG YOUR AUDIO in all your EVP sessions. If your stomach growls, say that. If you hear someone next to you move, say so. Of course if you yawn, or sigh, or whisper to yourself, be aware enough of all these things in yourself and your fellow researchers and say something on the tape. It is hard to do this when you are nervous, but it can also help you focus and not become flustered by your own nerves.
Be sure your EVP sessions are isolated from outside noise as much as possible – this may be difficult with other researchers or stray noise from an active urban environment, so be extra careful to tag car sounds, voices, weather changes, whatever. Read more

Classifications of Hauntings UnHollywood-Style
A paranormal investigator defines the four basic types of hauntings.
Movies, TV and even books can make you forget your rational thought when confronted with something you cannot readily explain. We always recommend trying to find the causes to things you may hear or see before considering a place to be haunted. If after investigating you cannot explain things still, here is a quick reference guide for the classifications of a haunting. Note: We do not recommend doing paranormal investigations on your own residence unless you know what you're doing. You can mistakenly and unknowingly make things a lot worse. Read more

Ghost Hunter Flashlight Phenomenon Explained? No
A YouTube video has surfaced claiming to debunk the flashlight phenomenon.
This is quite typical of the paranormal "debunking" I've read: It either doesn't debunk what actually happens on the show or outright lies about what happens. None of us outsiders can know whether the show's producers and participants are honest, of course, Assuming no chicanery, however, this explanation doesn't debunk the flashlight phenomenon. Furthermore, Sabrina Wu did an experiment to test whether the explanation was even plausible. Read about the outcome
... The host on the "Viper Paranormal" YouTube video offered another explanation. In the video, he said the flashlight turning on and off is basically a short circuit that occurs at random. He said that many ghosthunters unscrew the backs of their flashlights to the point where the flashlight is teetering between staying on or off, then set it down to ask questions. He compares the effect to lights flickering on and off in a home. This explanation would only satisfy the extremely gullible, or maybe someone who has never watched Ghost Hunters. On the show, the flashlight sits unlit and then slowly comes on in response to a question. Then it is turned off slowly at the request of an investigator. The flashlight does not flicker on and off.
"You're not getting enough voltage to that light and for a split second that light has no power. Well, it's the exact same thing with this flashlight. When this thing is unscrewed, it's teeter-tottering between having a connection. And basically you've got a short circuit, so sometimes this light's going to come on, and sometimes it's going to be off," said Mike St. Clair, the host of the Viper Paranormal YouTube series.
Theoretically, then, any vibration could cause the connection to be completed and the light to turn on.

17 Practical Tips for Would-Be Ghost Hunters
If you watching ghost hunting shows has inspired you to try ghost hunting yourself, Elsa Cook gives would-be ghost hunters seventeen practical tips.
Whether or not you believe in ghosts, these are some common sense ideas to remember in the pursuit of spirits. One thing I would add is to recite a prayer of protection before hunting for ghosts in the event you encounter an entity that is evil or harmful.
Ghosts are thought by some to…
…hurt you (rare but possible!)
…move at the speed of thought
…mess with your equipment
…speak to you through thought
…follow you home!
For the first-time ghost hunter, the excitement of being in the moment can sometimes cause lapses in common sense. Sometimes, a last minute decision to visit a cemetery late at night can end badly. Recall the school teacher in Tennessee who held a group of teens at gunpoint, believing them to be trespassing.
In fact, this relates to the number one rule: Read more

How to Hunt Ghosts Like a Pro
The Investigative Paranormal Society of Minnesota (TIPSMN) founder Nick Larson, who teaches classes in paranormal investigation, gives some tips to would-be ghost hunters.
Whether or not you believe in the supernatural, ghosts can make good stories.
In Dundas, there are rumors of plenty of encounters.
Pauline Koester says that the majority of her employees at the L & M Bar & Grill have seen or heard something that’s given them the creeps.
They’ve seen dark apparitions. A cup of paper clips has flown off the counter. The men’s bathroom door creaks open and shut, though the window is closed. Read more

Hunt on for Horny Ghost
An Australian ghost hunter wants to investigate a ghost who grabbed a woman by the arm, though if that's all it did, I'm not sure why they think it's "horny." It could have just been trying to get her attention.
A ghost hunter wants to visit the Northern Territory to investigate the existence of Kevin, a horny ghost, that yesterday divided the nation into believers and sceptics.
Jason King, who has been hunting ghosts for five years, said the encounter of Darwin woman Jennifer Mills-Young with a ghost she named 'Kevin' was "normal" and he would "love to get evidence".
Mr King said he would come to Darwin for an investigation - free of charge. Read more

Learning to See and Sense Ghosts
Very few people ever have seen a ghost or seem to have the necessary sensitivity or mental equipment to see and view these supernatural entities. But all of that is about to change, this article says.
In spite of all of the ghost-themed television shows produced and aired each week, in which it appears that ghostly manifestations literally lie in wait for us, if not exactly around every corner, than at least every third house on the block, for those who might want to see or stumble into them; but the truth is that very few people, indeed, ever have seen a ghost, or for that matter, seem to have the necessary sensitivity or mental equipment to see and view these supernatural entities from another time, and possibly another life, and certainly another place. For Sale: Two Captured Ghosts
For sale: "Two captured ghosts, trapped inside bottles of holy water to make them sleepy." I've seen things like this on eBay before and always wondered if they ever sell. Apparently, the bidding was brisk on this item.A New Zealand woman has solved the mystery of what gift to get for the person who has everything.
But she's raised a whole lot of other questions in the process.
Avie Woodbury claimed she was so tired of being haunted that she called in an exorcist to rid her house of two ghosts.
The exorcist trapped the spirits in bottles of holy water - which Ms Woodbury has now put up for sale on internet auction site TradeMe.
'The holy water dulls the spirits' energy, sort of puts them to sleep' she said. Read more
