Immortality, the Elixir of Life and the Food of the Gods

John Black examines the ancient belief that immortality could be attained by eating special foods.
When we look into the accounts of many different mythologies andreligions, it becomes clear that the gods are either immortal or live a life of many thousands of years. What is rarely mentioned is the factthat in ancient religious texts there is reference to their immortality or longevity being connected to a specific kind of food that only the gods are allowed to eat. The gods were required to eat this food regularly to maintain immortality, power and strength. Many references also refer to the fact that if mortals ate this food, they would also become immortal like the gods. So let us explore the mythology surrounding this ‘Elixir of Life’ Read more

Is Putin Immortal?

Is Vladimir Putin immortal? The Internet has been blowing up over photos of Putin as grown man 95 years ago.
Historic pictures have emerged of two men taken in 1920 and 1941 who look remarkably similar slightly younger versions of Putin, now aged 63.

It has led conspiracy theorists to dream up a version of events as to if it is actually him.

The picture, taken in 1920, is of a Russian solider who does look like the leader.

Are Immortals Currently Walking the Earth?

Are immortals currently walking the earth? Taylor Leonard lists several rumored possibilites.
Humanity’s quest for immortality is as old as the human race itself. We now see a Renaissance of new transhumanist ideas that make it seem like technology will be the cure to mortality. What once belonged to the realm of gods and magic is now in the hands of researchers and science – results pending, of course. Though society as a whole may still be on the hunt for ways to live forever, some claim the feat has already been achieved by a small number of people. Here’s a list of these so-called immortals believed by some to be walking the Earth this very moment: Read more

Does Quantum Physics Imply that We Are Immortal?

Greg Taylor explores whether quantum physics implies that we will live forever.
Is Schrödinger's Cat immortal? And by extension, does that mean that both you and I will live forever as well?

In the famed thought experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935, a cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source are placed in a sealed box. If an internal monitor detects the radioactivity from a single atom decaying, the poison is released into the sealed box, killing the cat. But in the weird world of quantum mechanics - or more specifically in this case, the 'Copenhagen interpretation' of quantum mechanics - the cat would supposedly remain in a state of 'superposition', both alive and dead, until an observation or measurement is made by an external observer opening the box, collapsing the wavefunction - and finding the cat either alive or dead. Schrödinger did not see this as a serious possibility - instead, his thought experiment was meant to show a problem with the Copenhagen interpretation. Read more
