Paranormal "Skeptic" Thinks He Has Debunked Ghost Sightings

There are two major problems with paranormal "skeptics." First, they don't actually know much of anything about the topics they attempt to debunk. This leads to the second problem: they regard themselves as brilliant and knowledgeable, and anyone with opposing views and experiences as a retarded mouth-breather.  (Some also lie outright, but that's more of a personal character flaw.)

Although the average person may not be aware of the points Neel V. Patel brings up, ghost hunters certainly are. They openly discuss them and factor them into their investigations.

Are ghosts real? Well, there's as much scientific evidence to support their existence as there is for the existence black holes. Which is to say there isn't any, really. Obsessive Debunking Disorder: Are Paranormal Skeptics Brain Deficient?

Are hardcore "skeptics" actually brain deficient? Their own beloved "hard science" might suggest that many are, says Thomas Sheridan.

We have all encountered them. The men and women of 'reason'. The self-appointed guardians and vanguards of materialist dogma along with their absolute faith and belief in official government and corporate press releases. The debunker, the hardcore skeptic—how they love to compulsively ridicule and mock all they deem 'pseudoscience' and 'conspiracy theory'—while also declaring anyone who thinks outside the box or questions the prevailing orthodoxy, a "moron" and a "tard". Matters not how solid the evidence you present them with is, nor how flimsy their own state-sanctioned 'hard science' which they smugly offer up as their rebuttal; they are driven by a messianic compulsion to root out unscientific 'idiots' with all the zeal and fanaticism similar to that of a Dominican or Jesuit charging through southern France in the twelfth century seeking out 'heretics' for the burning. Irony does not even come into their myopic worldview—unless of course a government, corporate or university press office states this. Then it becomes an undisputed fact. Thanks to the likes of Richard Dawkins and Christoper Hitchens, these Internet-bound warriors of rationality see 'Creationists' and 'hidden Christians' around every corner and seek to root them out and expose them as part and parcel of their own peculiar secular witch hunt mentality. Is This the Week that Organized Skepticism Imploded?

Lately, several dogmatic materialists, aka skeptics, have had some "skepticism being applied to their own actions and pronouncements, and a number of them are being revealed for the pretenders they are." For many years on this site I've critiqued the demagogic tendencies of a number of the 'leaders' of the modern skeptical movement (see the bottom of this post for some links). I've often faced resistance (and sometimes hostility) from card-carrying skeptics for pointing out the foibles of these so-called champions of science, and the dangers of having such people as figureheads of a movement dedicated to truth and reason - but I had no inkling that in the space of just a few short years the reputations of a number of them would begin coming undone at their own hands. Are Parnormal Skeptics Conducting a Modern-Day Witch Hunt?

Brendan O'Neill says that the hounding of the medium "Psychic Sally" is becoming a modern-day witch-hunt. 

Once upon a time, the great and the good, usually men of the cloth, hunted and persecuted women who were believed to have mystical powers. Today, the great and the good, usually men of science, go after women who don’t have mystical powers but who claim to. Decent society once hounded witches; now it hounds pseudo-witches.

So it is with Sally Morgan, otherwise known as “Psychic Sally”, former adviser on supernatural matters to Princess Diana, self-styled communicator with the dead, and now hate-figure-in-chief to the rationalist, sceptical set. Judging from the slurry of ridicule dumped on Morgan by certain writers and activists over the past year, you could be forgiven for thinking she was single-handedly responsible for the spread of stupidity in modern Britain. She “preys” on her “vulnerable audiences”, we are told, talking “a load of crystal balls”, making the “gullible” and “lonely” believe in stuff that isn’t true. Some serious science writers even want to institute annual Sally-bashing get-togethers for clever, scientifically minded people, to which Morgan will be invited, so that she can perform her tricks, but obviously she won’t turn up and then she can be mocked even more!
