The 50 Creepiest Places on Earth

Door to Hell in Turkmenistan is just one of the 50 creepiest places on earth.
The earth is dotted with magical landscapes and fairy-tale destinations but it is also home to eerie places that are straight out of nightmares (or very, very strange dreams) — from a forest of spooky, crooked trees to an island inhabited by thousands of venomous snakes.

And while some of the mysterious sights featured in the slideshow above were man-made (Mexico's spooky Island of Dolls was created as a memorial to a young girl who drowned), many were formed by Mother Nature herself. The UNESCO-protected Tsingy de Bemahara Strict Nature Reserve, for example, boasts a rare, geological phenomena — karstic landscapes and limestone uplands cut into impressive "tsingy" peaks and a "forest" of limestone needles. The nightmarish, rocky spires are razor-sharp and needle-like, known to cut through flesh and equipment easily. Only a few scientists have dared to travel to the area to conduct detailed research. The 6 Types of Hauntings

Veteran ghost researcher Paul Dale Roberts explains the six types of haunting activity: residual hauntings, poltergeists, demon activity, intelligent hauntings, shadow people, and doppelganger hauntings.
Residual Haunting Activity:

Residual haunting activity can occur when something traumatic/stressful occurs, such as a murder or a rape. Negative energy is literally blasted into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to imprint or record the events. Like a recording tape, it will play the events over and over again. The entities involved in this residual haunting activity are unaware of their surroundings. This is not an intelligent haunting, there is no interaction between you and the entity.

Residual haunting activity can also be caused by positive energy blasted into the atmosphere. Many times you have heard ghost stories, where people can hear the sounds of a party. They hear music, singing, dancing, laughter and when they enter the room where they hear the party, there is no one there. Residual haunting activity can be the specters of living Read more

Are Ghosts and Shadow People One and the Same?

Are ghosts and shadow people one and the same? Paranormal researchers disagree.
Shadow people are paranormal shadow-like creatures that people usually see in their peripheral vision. Reports suggest that they do not appear to reflect light and that their appearance is essentially a silhouette in black.

They usually have no discernible features beyond the general outline of their form. However, shadow people have been reported to have shifted into a more human form and in these instances it is said that sometimes features such as glowing eyes and sometimes mouths or nostrils are discernible.

Reports of shadow people, sometimes called shadow folk, shadow men, or shadow beings, have many similarities with ghost sightings, so many similarities that many paranormal experts consider ghost and shadow people one and the same.

However, other experts disagree and claim that shadow people are a separate phenomenon from ghosts for a variety of reasons. Read more

Is David Boreanaz Living in a Haunted House?

Actpr David Boreanz and his wife Jamie Bergman are having trouble sleeping in their Los Angeles home. It seems that their bed moves in the middle of the night.
It's a little ironic that David Boreanaz plays the master of the mysterious in roles like a bloodsucker on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and in the spin-off show Angel. He currently stars as FBI agent Seeley Booth on the crime drama Bones. You'd think it would take a lot for him to get creeped out.

But the 41-year-old and his wife Jaime Bergman got a scare when they moved into a cozy home in Los Angeles earlier this summer with their two children, Jaden, 7, and Bella, 1. Haunted Whorehouse in Wyoming

Lusk, Wyoming, is supposed to be home to a haunted whorehouse. Visitors have reported smelling perfume, seeing lights, and hearing music coming from the vacant house.
Is Lusk home to one of the longest running whorehouses in Wyoming? Some say yes, some also say that its haunted.

Mary Ada Fisher followed the gold boom west from Ohio, and found herself in the town of Lusk the year was 1919. Mary changed her name to Dell Burke, set up a tent, and started taking customers. Soon she had enough money to rent a house and bring in a few girls; it seemed Dell was on her way to bigger things. It was only a year later she bought a large house, painted it yellow and took in even more girls. Read more

Spirits Purported to Linger in Early 1700s Home

Spirits are purported to linger in an early-1700s Merrimac, Massachusetts, home, according to its owners.
Halloween at Michael Wendt's Merrimac house has always been a quiet holiday. Even when he was a child, the neighborhood kids were afraid to trick-or-treat at his River Road home because of rumors of ghosts lurking in the shadows.

The lore surrounding the ghosts centers on the alleged murders hundreds of years ago of a mother and her two children in one of the home's back rooms, Wendt said.

A yearlong renovation underway at the more than 300-year-old house may or may not scare the ghosts away.

"The belief is that those spirits haunt the house," Wendt, 51, said. Read more
